District Accountant
Ministry Job Description
The District Accountant is considered a part of the District Office team and is to provide assistance to the Assistant District Superintendent for Fellowship Services in the area of finances and give general oversight of the day-to-day tasks of the financial department of the District Office. Ensure current accepted accountant practices are maintained within the guidelines specific for Canadian Charities.
The day-to-day tasks of the District Accountant include but not limited to:
District Tasks
- Supervise the work of the Financial Assistant. Provide guidance and instructions to the Financial Assistant as appropriate.
- Reconcile various balance sheet accounts to make sure they are accurate
- Provide monthly financial reports for all departments
- Provide annual financial reporting for District Conference, including being a liaison with the District’s external accountant
- Complete the District’s annual Canada Revenue Charity Return
- Complete the District’s annual insurance application
- Assist churches with payroll calculations and reporting as requested
- Assist churches with financial reporting problems
- Seek ways to improve the use of technology in areas of financial matters
Pentecostal Holding Corporation/Kingdom Life Financial
- Review as necessary all work of the Financial Assistant
- Provide monthly financial reports
- Periodically as needed review interest rates for investments and loans
- Provide annual financial reporting for District Conference, including being a liaison with the District’s external accountant
Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre
- Calculate and record necessary accruals
- Review financial reports regularly for proper recording of transactions
- Provide monthly financial reports
On-going Projects
- Assist in the transition from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks On-line.
- Assist in the development of Best Practices and Policies and Procedures for the financial department of the District.
Education Requirement:
- Post Secondary degree in the area of finance (preferred)
Experience:
- Well versed in QuickBooks (On-line and Desktop)
- Servant Keeper (database) experience would be an asset
- Experience in the area accounting, data entry, recording, and financial reporting
- Aware of current accepted accounting practices for Canadian Charities
Starting Salary:
- Starting salary $25/hour (Possibly negotiable noting education and experience)
Hours:
- Starting at 3 days/week (24 hours/week) with the possibility of expanding to more hours as responsibilities increase
